Harris History

I hope you all have a great long weekend. Here is the latest update:

All Grade 10s will be Literacy Test prep next week. There is an info assembly on Tuesday during P4 and we will focus on different types of questions in different periods next week.

P2 Civics: Excellent discussion this morning about the North Korean threat as well as our "Words into Action" quotations. Please ask your son or daughter what he or she learned about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Students should make sure that they completed the Venn diagram in class that compares the Charter with the Universal Declaration.

P3 and 4 History: Make sure text research about post-WWI issues is done (Spanish flu, Persons Case, prohibition). All students should be signed up with Collaborize Classroom and they should respond to all available questions from me by Tuesday. Students should also comment on at least one other person’s response in each category. We will transition to a question of the week format next week. Please ask your son or daughter about the 3 post-WWI issues list above. They should be able to define/describe the event/issue and explain why each was significant in our history.

Harris History Update

Hi Everyone:

P2 Civics: Excellent discussion today about the Global Village and world issues. No homework, but I did ask students to connect with any American friends that they have about how open their schools are to groups like Gay-Straight Alliances. This stems from a discussion we had after a news report about the American debate over same-sex marriage. This is not a mandatory assignment, but if they are comfortable doing so, I thought it would be an interesting comparison to our local schools.

P3 History: We continued our study of the Roaring 20s today. No homework, but students should make sure they are registered for Collaborize Classroom and that they have responded to the prompts that are currently up there. You might quiz your son or daughter about what they learned about the Canadian economy during the 1920s, specifically, why was it ‘booming’?

P4 History: No homework, but students should make sure they are registered for Collaborize Classroom. We will be doing online posts in the lab tomorrow. You could ask your son or daughter what they learned about: the Spanish Flu, prohibition, and/or the Persons Case.

Harris History March Break Edition

Hi Everyone:

If you have holidays next week, enjoy! If not, sorry for rubbing it in 🙂

No homework for any of my classes; however, history students have a WWI test on the Wednesday back. Might be a good idea to review some of the stuff in the text online. I also have a jeopardy game posted on my website for WWI if interested. Have a great week.
