Harris History Update

Hi Folks:

Hope you are having a great Tuesday. Are you ready for the trick or treaters yet? No, neither am I 🙂

Here is a quick update:

P1 and 4: Students are learning about what caused the Great Depression. P1 had time to read the attached article but P4 students will have to finish it tonight for homework (they have a copy in their notes). I have asked the students to try to start reading more actively by annotating (making comments on) the handouts that they receive from me. The margins are great places to write comments, ask questions, make connections (e.g. "This reminds me of…") or even to draw a simple image to help represent an important idea. Also, if you have any insight you can provide to your son or daughter about how investments work (or don’t!) and/or about concepts like recession and prosperity, it would certainly help them to understand what we are discussing in class a bit better.

P2: Talent show buy-in so no homework. We will be looking at westward expansion tomorrow, then we will shift our focus to the causes of the Civil War later in the week.

Have a great evening.

Hi Everyone:

Harris History Update

Great day for all of my classes!

P1 and 4 students did a great job on the 1920s skits. Very entertaining and educational. We will finish the skits tomorrow and take some time to discuss the roaring vs. not-so-roaring aspects of the 1920s. The quiz will be Monday. Students received the most recent quiz back yesterday.

P2: We had a lively debate at our Constitutional Convention. Students will complete their debate tomorrow and compare our class Constitution to the real American Constitution. The Unit 2 test will be Monday. We will review on Friday in class and a bit tomorrow as well.

Have a great evening.

Harris History Update

Hi Everyone:

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend. Here is the latest from my classes:

P1 and 4: The rain held off all day and the field trip was a great success. Oakridge students were the largest group there and represented us well. I took many photos and shot some video so I’ll try to share some of that on my website as soon as possible. Note the the website is under password protection so it won’t be available for public viewing. Students have their final preparation day for their 1920s skits tomorrow so they should come prepared to work hard and polish things off. The skits begin on Wednesday. We will have a 3rd unit quiz early next week.

P2: Students viewed a video about the challenges associated with creating the American Constitution. They have a short reading about Ben Franklin to complete for homework tonight (3 focus questions on p. 92).

Enjoy your evening!
