Harris History Update: Weekend Edition

Hi:

P1 and P4: Continue to work on position paper. It’s due next Thursday. Parents, you might take a minute to quiz your son or daughter using the following 2 questions. See if they can give you 3 examples for each:

1. Why were the years from 1939-1942 considered to be "The Days of Despair" for the Allies (our side) during WWII?
2. Why were the years from 1943-1945 called "The Road to Victory"?

P2: No homework this weekend.

Have a great weekend, everyone.

Harris History Update

Hi Everyone:

P1 and P4: Continue working on position paper. It’s due next Thursday. I am happy to look at work in progress.

P2: The potluck was fantastic. Thanks to everyone who brought in items for the feast. Students also learned about many Thanksgiving myths. Ask them to share one or two with you. I will post photos on the class page and email everyone when they are available.

Have a great evening!

Harris History Update

Hi everyone:

Time to get the shovels out again by the looks of it. Here is the latest from Room 128

P1 and P4: Students had essay process work returned today. The paper is due next Thursday. Students are welcome to come in at lunch for extra assistance with any aspect of the writing process (i.e. footnoting, bibliography, argument creation, etc.). I have several support resources posted on the position paper page of my Grade 10 site. No other specific homework for tomorrow, but many students need to do more research and argument construction, so I recommend doing at least a bit of work on the paper each day.

Students wrote the Unit 3 test today. We have the inaugural Harris History American Thanksgiving Potluck scheduled for tomorrow. The kids are excited for sure. If you are bringing anything on your son or daughter’s behalf, please check in at the main office and they can contact my room. Students have no homework tonight.

Enjoy your evening and remember: lift with your legs, not your back…snow is heavy!

Harris History Update

Hi Everyone:

P1 and P4: No homework. We will get back to the position paper tomorrow.

P2: Study for unit test tomorrow. Here are the links to the Jeopardy games we used in class:

Also, several P2 students signed up for the American Thanksgiving potluck today; your son or daughter may also have signed YOU up in the process, so please ask them if they committed to something that requires your assistance. I asked that if they are bringing something that requires serving utensils that they also bring those utensils with them. I have access to 2 fridges (1 small, 1 large) and I am bringing a crockpot for my (wife’s) famous meatballs. If you have any experience with event planning, please email me (just kidding, I think we can muddle our way through). I will take some photos and share them on my password-protected page.

That’s it. Have a great evening.

Harris History Monday Update

Does anyone else have a sore back from shovelling? I used proper technique and I still feel terrible! I hope you had a chance to enjoy your weekend despite the avalanche on Saturday night.

P1 and P4: Students wrote their quiz today. I am in the process of assessing process work from the position papers and hope to return materials in the next couple of days.

P2: Unit test review distributed today. Students also had to submit their position papers (paper copy and online submission). We continued to look at the assassination of Abe Lincoln (very dramatic!).

Unit test is Wednesday, so students should be studying hard. We’ll do in-class review tomorrow as well.

Have a great evening, everyone!

Harris History Weekend Update

Have a great weekend everyone. Here is the latest:

P1 and P4: Essay process work should be in my hands by now. Quiz Monday; review is online on my website.
http://www.tvdsb.ca/webpages/charris/academic.cfm?subpage=240580

P2: Position paper due Monday. I need a paper copy and students must also upload it to my e-learning dropbox:

https://tvdsb.elearningontario.ca/

They log into the site just like they would log on to a school computer. They click the ‘dropbox’ icon and upload the file from there.

My P2 class is also planning to do a potluck in honour of American Thanksgiving this Thursday. We will have a sign-up sheet on Monday.

Enjoy your weekend.

Harris History Update

Hi Everyone:

OFSAA volleyball is in full swing here at Oakridge (that was a very week pun). Here is what’s happening in Room 128:

P1 and P4: Students submitted (hopefully) their research notes, position paper organizer and rough bibliography to me for checking today. I will return the work as soon as possible so they can work on the draft of the paper. We will be doing in-class review tomorrow to prepare for Monday’s quiz on the Great Depression and the causes of WWII. If students did not submit the process work today, they should be working on it tonight. Otherwise, a preliminary review of the notebook for the quiz would be a good thing to do.

P2: Students should be writing the draft of their Antietam/Gettysburg paper. It’s due Monday. The next unit test is Wednesday, so students should begin to review their notes.

Have a great evening!
