Harris History Update: The Last One for Semester One!

Well, this is it for now. Students begin exams tomorrow (some may have even started today as was the case with my 11s) and stress and anxiety are in the air. All 3 of my classes write on Monday.

P1 and P4 in the cafeteria from 12-2

P2 in Room 128 from 8:30-10:30

Students were asked to bring pencils for the multiple choice section and pens for the written answer section. Any textbooks that students have should be brought to the exam so we don’t have to chase anyone into semester 2.

There is another exam being written in my room tomorrow morning but I’ll be available in the history office if students need to speak with me. Again, keep us in mind for course selections for next year.

Have a great evening and weekend and stay warm!

Harris History Update

Hi Everyone:

P1 and P4: Please take some time to read about the Cold War topics that were presented in class. Use the online text or perhaps the Canadian Encyclopedia online. We will do more review and recap tomorrow.

P2: Tomorrow is the in-class portion of the exam. Bring a pen and your notebook as it will be ‘open book.’

Have a great evening!

Harris History Update

Hi All:

I hope you had a great weekend. I saw quite a few stressed out teens today; you can tell it’s exam season. Time management, sleep and good nutrition are 3 things that the kids should keep in mind both this week and next (not to mention the rest of their lives!).

P1: Students should access their online textbooks to begin reading the sections about the Cold War that will be addressed by our information chart note presentations tomorrow. The more first-hand background they have, the better. I have posted an exam review page on my website in the Grade 10 section.

P2: The in-class portion of the exam is on Thursday; students may use their notebooks so I told them to get all the handouts in order and complete anything that is blank. Review material will be available tomorrow.

P4: Students who did not finish the research page about Igor Gouzenko before the Christmas break should do so this evening. The text pages needed for this are on my website under unit 3. I have posted an exam review page on my website in the Grade 10 section.

Hi Everyone:

P1 and P4: Please review your notes about the Cold War. We will return to our study of it on Monday. The overall Greatest Canadian will be determined on Monday as well. Good job with the debates this week.

P2: Complete historical significance analysis of Pearl Harbor and D-Day.

Have a great weekend!

Harris History Weekend Update

Hi Everyone:

I hope you all have a great weekend and that your basement doesn’t flood with all of this melting.

Next week, I will be sending out information about senior history, law and politics course offerings for the 2014-2015 school year.

P1 and P4 students begin their Great Canadian debates on Monday. All students must bring all materials and be ready to go. They will probably not want to, but see if you can get them to do a trial run of their character with you. Cue cards are essential, even if they are made, not bought. I don’t want students reading a script; the cue cards should be to help them remember key ideas but they should really know their stuff so they can make lots of eye contact and project their voice. If you can’t get your son or daughter to perform their material for you, suggest that they try it in the mirror.

P2 students should be putting the finishing touches on their culminating activities. All projects are due on Tuesday.

That’s it. Have a good one!

Happy New Year from Harris History

Hi Everyone:

I hope you all enjoyed any holidays that you took over the past couple of weeks. We were back in action today and here is the latest:

P1 and P4: Students received their WWII essays back today with quite a bit of written feedback. If any comments were unclear, students are welcome to come and speak with me. Students have time over the rest of the week to work on their culminating activity research. The debates begin on Monday. Students should continue to work outside of class as well (within reason).

P2: We were in the library working on the final project today. Some students were less than productive (still dreaming of another snow day, perhaps). I am hoping for a bit more work output tomorrow. I gave a one-day extension for the project; they are now due next Tuesday.

Have a great evening.
