Harris History Update

Hi Everyone:

I hope you all had a great weekend. Better get your umbrella out and ready for the next couple of days. Here is the latest:

Did you see your son or daughter’s mid-term report card yet? They were issued Friday morning.

P1: Students begin to present their WWII topics tomorrow morning. Groups were very productive today, so hopefully there isn’t too much to complete this evening. Rehearsal is the key to a great presentation, so hopefully you see evidence of that tonight. Great Depression quizzes were returned today.

P3: Students have a brief reading to do for background on the Persian Wars. Note-making is optional, but recommended.

P4: No homework. We continued our study of Nelson Mandela.

Harris History Update

Hi Folks:

I hope you had a better long weekend than I did. Beware of the nasty stomach bug that is making the rounds in this area…I would not wish it on my worst enemy!

P1: We finished looking at Canada’s 7-point plan to prepare for WWII. Students will begin their ‘Briefing the Prime Minister’ task tomorrow. No homework.

P3: Students set up a fantastic mini-museum in class today. So much creativity and great info in one room. I took pics of each exhibit and will post them on my website in the next day or so. No homework tonight.

P4: We discussed good and bad choices for the news report task and began our analysis of democracy. Students should sign up for a news report date tomorrow; they can also reserve a topic online if they would like to (on my Civics page). They should finish the questions for Totalitaria tonight if they didn’t finish in class.

Have a great evening everyone!

Harris History Update

Hi Everyone:

Luckily, the weekend appears as if it’s going to be a bit warmer. Here is the latest from Room 128:

P1: No homework. We continued to discuss the main events and issues leading to the outbreak of WWII.

P3: Students should continue to work on their Ancient Greece projects. They should come to class tomorrow with their 3 pages of completed research and the beginnings of a bibliography. Tomorrow is the last in-class period and the exhibits will be set up starting next Wednesday.

P4: Students have a few questions from an article about why the government created a mandatory civics course to complete if they didn’t get them done in class today.

Have a great evening!

Harris History/Civics Update from Oakridge

Hi Folks:

My subject line is a bit different today because a new class of Civics began yesterday and I didn’t want my email to be deleted. Most of you have already received email from me but some parents will be new to the system. I try to send out an update at least every couple of days, but I prefer to do it every day if I can. The purpose is to keep you in the loop about what’s going on in my classes. You can also expect a comment about the weather and other attempts at humour from time to time. If you have any questions, please let me know.

P1 History: No homework unless the front side of the Steps to War timeline was not completed in class time. We’ll finish the rest tomorrow.

P3 History: Continue working on Ancient Greece mini museum exhibit. Some students need to complete work that was not submitted for the Great Pharaoh project (bibliography and research notes). That’s due tomorrow.

P4 Civics: No homework, but please ask your son or daughter about today’s lesson. We had some guest instructors in and they asked the kids some very important and challenging questions. We had good discussion and I saw the wheels start to turn for many of the kids at various points during the class.

That’s it for now. Have a great evening.

Snow. Really?
